Hi my name is Jonathan Carpenter (Jon to almost everyone except my mother) and I am the photographer behind JLC Photography Limited. I was born in Australia but have spent almost my entire life in the UK.

I am a proud and loving husband to Louise and father to Sophie (currently 3).

I am passionate about my photography and service – this is absolutely true. My desire is to provide you with wonderful images, displayed beautifully for you to cherish and want to display for everyone to see. I offer a pre-wedding session with every wedding booking because I want to get to know you better and understand your likes and dislikes. I don’t set strict time limits to home or location portrait sessions because I want to give you the opportunity to relax, to know you are happy and that we have got the best from your session.

Lots of photographers talk about styles and genres (for weddings I am simply relaxed and non-intrusive) but what does this mean? A wedding day takes a huge amount of planning and I feel extremely privileged to be chosen to be part of your day. So when plans change at the last minute (and during the day) I am as flexible as possible to accommodate your needs. I only ever book one wedding per day so that if your plans change I can change with them. I will never shout, I won’t take over your day and I will never leave at a set time because I have another booking. Non-intrusive is simply creating a stunning record of your day as it unfolds with the minimum amount of distraction.

Many of my couples start out saying to me ‘just a record of my day as it happens' and this is exactly what I will do especially during your ceremony and speeches. But what about group photos? Group photos need to be arranged and require your photographer to get really involved with you and your guests. They need to be organised and photographed as quickly as possible to ensure your guests aren't kept standing around 'for hours' and your venue isn’t kept waiting. Group photos are your record of all of your guests on your big day. If you would like them to be photographed I am more than happy to oblige.
After the group photos I like to do some 'couple photos'. These are an opportunity – a few special photographs of you both which are your own idea – whilst I will make suggestions I never push my ideas on you as it is your big day.

Sometimes, if it is not planned for, it will not happen by ‘magic’ or ‘accident’ for me to capture and if you really want it then we (together) will ensure we capture it. I will take your ideas on how you would like your photographs offer my own suggestions and input on background, lighting, look and feel to create something beautiful for you to treasure. I am happy to act as a 'fly on the wall' and document or to actively participate to ensure you receive the images you want on your special day. For most couples it is a mixture of both.

Why do so many of my photographs include children? I am a family photographer and to many people, both weddings and portraits, their children being part of their session or big day is extremely important. It makes me laugh when people tell me how difficult their child will be to photograph – I know I have one. If it was easy to get great photos you wouldn’t need me. This is one of my main reasons for setting up the portrait business to be fully mobile rather than studio based. Children react much better in familiar surroundings, with familiar people and access to their own space. Of course, why would I need to set up my own studio when there are some really nice people who will rent me one whenever a family request a full studio session?

Do you need to travel to view your photos? A selection of images are uploaded to a private gallery within my website which is password protected. There is no hard sell as I simply don’t agree with it. Having spent years selling financial products before finding a career I truly love I know that if the product is right people will buy. There is no need to apply pressure to force a sale. You choose what you would like, the size and format in the comfort of your own home. Choosing at home allows you to measure your wall space to buy the perfect print for your wall. Place your order through our website and be redirected to PayPal to pay by card. Albums are slightly different as I need a detailed understanding of which photos are most important and need to be emphasized to create an album you will simply love. These are always discussed in detail and normally in person but again you choose the type of album, size and number of images to be included and so how much the album will cost.
